The LSU Tigers took on the Iowa Hawkeyes yesterday in the Women's NCAA National Championship. Both these teams have taken the nation by storm. Iowa has had an incredible run this March lead by their leader and the Nation's best player Caitlin Clark. Clark has gotten comparisons to none other than the legend Steph Curry because of her limitless range and ability to get her teammates involved. Clark is a walking 40-point triple double as she led Iowa to the National Championship by dropping a 40-point triple double against Louisville and then followed that up by a 40-point game against South Carolina. LSU went on an amazing run to get to the big game as well. The LSU Tigers were a team full of elite hoopers who boasted a 34-2 record. Lead by Angel Reese who averaged 23 points and 15 rebounds and after yesterday she has the most triple doubles in women's college basketball history.
The game started off nip and tuck both teams competing on both ends playing hard. I hate that this was a storyline, but the refs were horrible all game but especially in the first half. Both teams ended up in foul trouble. Kim Mulkey decided to put Angel Reese on the bench and despite Caitlin Clark's foul trouble Lisa Blunder decided to keep her in. LSU bench showed up and showed out especially Jasmine Carson who went Super Sayan mode in the second quarter scoring 21 points off the bench. LSU took a 21-point lead going into half time. Despite Caitlin Clark and Iowa's efforts they could not come back from that big of a deficit. Caitlin Clark proved she was the best player in the country scoring another 30 points and cashing in a Championship game record 7 threes. But LSU was the better team. Angele Reese had 15 and 10 but she played a complimentary role this game. Ladazhia Williams helped Reese control the paint with 20 points and when Iowa began to cut the lead down Alexis Morris shut the door on them every time with timely buckets and harassing Caitlin Clark in the second half. This women's tournament we got everything as fans of basketball upsets, trash talk, historic performances and a great title game resulting in the best team winning. Congrats to the Lady Tigers on becoming the 2023 NCAA Womens College Basketball Champs!
