No wide receiver has ever won an MVP ever in the history of football. There have been wide outs who have been worthy of winning. In 1995 Jerry Rice had a season with 1,848 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns. He was incredible flash 80 could not be stopped he had a season worthy of being the MVP but as usual a Quaterback took home the award this time it was John Elway. Last year Cooper Kupp was the triple crown winner. He lead the league in receiving yards, catches and touchdown passes but only received 1 MVP vote as QB Aaron Rodgers took home the honors. Now this year Justin Jefferson is having himself a tremendous season. He has caught 123 passes so far, has 1,756 receiving yards and 8 touchdown catches. Does Justin Jefferson have a chance to be MVP and what will need to happen for that to happen.

The MVP is a QB award always has been and always will be. Coming into every season QB's have the advantage over any other position on the field when it comes to the MVP award. Receivers are at a disadvantage because their success is tied to the performance of the Quaterback. Look at the 2007 MVP race. Randy Moss had one of the best seasons by a receiver in NFL history. New England acquired a talented but troubled receiver and he rejuvenated himself and the Patriots he caught 98 receptions, had 1493 yards and caught 23 touchdown passes. He helped the Patriots go undefeated in the regular season. Randy could have been considered for MVP honors but wasn't. In part because he was looked at as just help. Tom Brady was a made man already and he himself threw 50 touchdown passes. Tom got the majority of the credit and was awarded the MVP unanimously the first in NFL history. Randy didn't even get one vote his value was underappreciated because his quaterback was already established. Cooper Kupp was overlooked because Aaron Rodgers was so dominant and the public along with some experts gave the credit for his success mostly to Matthew Stafford and scheme.
Justin Jefferson has a case because he is not playing with a legendary QB or playing for a genius coach. Jefferson's value is known around the league but would could cause him to lose out on the MVP is his numbers. JJetas numbers are great but they are not generational. They are great for NFC offensive player of the year not MVP. For Jefferson to realistically win MVP he would have to have 2k receiving yards, 15-20 touchdowns and his team would have to be number 1 in the conference. He's not going to reach those heights but he will come close. So no MVP this year for Mr. Jefferson but he is young enough and talented enough to one day become the NFL's first receiver to win MVP.
